It slowly became a walk

It started out slow, legs barely moving, arms dangling by my side. I had no destination in mind, I just felt the need to go. To move from my current port, to get to a place for which I had no name. It was calling to me and so I decided to go, if only to quiet the loudness in my head. My thighs protested, my head wasn't in the game. In the end my heart won and my legs followed suit. My arms tried to keep up as best as they could. Everything was a mess, jumbled and out of sync. I heard a patronising sneer but it was quickly stamped out by the heaviness of my feet pounding the pavement. I stepped over cracks and righted myself once more from almost falling. My arms came up in a protective stance, battling the early morning insects. When they went back down toward my side this time, they started to sway, gangly then soon in tune with short agitated strides. With an uneven smile it slowly dawned on me; I was walking.
