Dear May

It's day 3 and I am 5 km in.

When I set my walking goal for this year, I expected some amount of challenge and I knew I would have to find different ways to keep motivated. One of the things I did was to let a few friends know of my intention. It was my own version of accountability.

I celebrated January as I met my number of kilometres; despite sub-zero temperatures and icy sidewalks. February proved it wasn't a glitch as I braved windchills to surpass the goal I had set for the month. Then March came and off I went with a goal in mind; 84.94 km or 2.74 km per day. Day 1 was amazing. It was a Sunday and what started out as a morning jaunt turned into a long slow walk, with no real destination in mind. The simple plan - that wasn't really a plan - was to walk until a voice said walk no more. 7.7 km later, I returned home.

Then mid-March came and my nicely laid plans flew out the window. That's the thing with plans, eh. Even the best laid plans can quickly go down the drain. Of all the things I could have anticipated throwing me a curve ball, a lockdown was never one of them.

Today, though I would like to stop and celebrate. In the midst of the storm we are all experiencing, I celebrate life, 75.28 km in March, 50.37 km in April.
